A Message from the New Executive Director of St. Mary’s Nursery School

Dear SMNS Community,

After a long and thorough search, we are thrilled to announce that we have found the next Executive Director for St Mary’s Nursery School, Christy Mauro! She will be starting after the July 4th holiday weekend.

Here’s some words from Christy:

Hello, let me introduce myself, my name is Christy Mauro, and I am the new Executive Director of Saint Mary’s Nursery School. I cannot tell you what a privilege and honor it is to be joining the Saint Mary’s Nursery School team.

I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you, but first let me tell you a little about myself. I have been married to my husband for thirteen years. We have two beautiful girls. My husband and I are both West Philadelphia natives.

I absolutely love training in Martial Arts and eventually began competing on the national circuit. Ironically, I met my husband at Park’s karate school at the age of eight. He is currently a Police Officer for the University of Penn. At the age of twelve, I was the youngest female inducted into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame for female competitor of the year. I started training the younger students at Parks Karate and helped them develop the skills and confidence that they needed to grow and learn. This is where I started my love of teaching. I am still involved in Martial Arts and am ecstatic to see my two beautiful daughters thriving at a local Jiu Jitsu school.

I am a graduate of Neumann College with a bachelor’s in Early Childhood Elementary Education.  This year marks my sixteenth year in education. I have varied experience as a teacher and school leader. For the first four years of my career, I served at the elementary school level, teaching a variety of grades and content areas. I decided to change course and for the next ten years I worked as an Assistant Director at Wonderspring, formerly Montgomery Early Learning Centers in Wynnewood. The last two years I have worked as a Director for Wonderspring Early Education.

I love being a Director! My passion is developing positive relationships with everyone within the community, working with students as they grow, supporting teachers and staff so that they can reach their greatest potential, strengthening a connection between school and home, and fostering a positive school culture. At our core, it is known that the school to home partnership is what allows ECE programs to provide an extraordinary school experience for all students. I look forward to meeting each of you and learning how I can best support you throughout this year, and many more to come.

Please join us in welcoming Christy to the St. Mary’s Family!

With gratitude,

Mike Agnew
